Activities at Otterburn on Friday included the following:
- 1 (Minden) and 3 (Somme) Companies spent the morning preparing to go out in the field, packing kit and practising how to set up their bashas, just in case the weather changed and the sunny weather we’d enjoyed up till this point changed … of this more in a later post
- 2 (Kohima) Company and 4 (Somme) Company were working on the Ranges, and frankly, quite content that it wasn’t yet their turn to go out into the field, since they’d read the weather forecasts and they weren’t inclined to be optimistic. This didn’t affect the Cadets’ attitude to shooting and firers from both companies continued to drop the 300m targets with astounding frequency – by the time we go home, a few of them will be fit only for re-cycling
- 5 (Anzio) Company and 6 (Quebec) Company were meanwhile coming to the end of their FTXs; they spent the morning continuing tactical training and Fieldcraft assessments before packing up after midday, handing over to the next two companies and returning to Camp to conduct an epic cleaning exercise of kit and personnel.
Meanwhile, at Holcombe, the first week of training was drawing to a close with continued hard work from all four platoons. Maitland Platoon brought its expedition to a close, coming back into camp in the mid-afternoon. A mop-up of Weapon Handling Tests (WHTs) was planned for the evening. Picton and de Lancey Platoons started their day with an activity beloved of all who have served – a room inspection! They then went on to Three Star First Aid Training which continued throughout the day until they joined Maitland to conduct WHTs. Wellington Platoon – the most senior of the Cadets – also started Friday with a room inspection and then spent the day preparing a drill parade for Visitor’s Day to be held on Saturday.
